The Science timeline is a representation of exciting points in Science history, from the creation of the universe with the big bang, all the way to the future and beyond, with everything in between.
Science is involved with everything, so this timeline has some highlights from all time, along with some information and links to fun activities and projects you can do at home or school!
We are always looking to add more points and activities to the timeline, so if you have an idea or interest, make sure that you let us know through the Project Request tab.
The Big Bang is the scientific theory that the universe began as a super dense singularity, exploding outwards, and is still expanding.
When the earth first formed it was little more then a massive ball of magma formed from matter orbiting our young sun. It was almost a billion years later that we even had liquid water making rain and seas. Have you ever wondered how we know this? Learn about different types of rock and artifact dating by modeling half-lives here.
Dinosaurs in their many forms existed from about 252 - 65 million years ago. The Tyrannosaurus Rex is one of the most famous and well know ones, as a massive meat eater. Creatures of this time had a wide range of different evolutionary features to survive and thrive, and you can learn more and design your own prehistoric creature here.
Food Preservation was an important step in moving from hunter-gatherer life to settled community and society. It allows us to keep the food that is collected for much longer. Now, as humans struggle with food scarcity at the same time as increased food waste, food preservation is an important part of making use of what we have. Learn how to preserve food at home here.
One of many great civilisations to exist, the Ancient Egyptian empire existed for just over 3,000 years. During this time they had many great achievements, including the construction of the Great Pyramids of Giza. It also had a lot of struggles. Learn more about what ancient civilisations needed to survive, and build your own civilisation here.
The outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020 has caused unprecedented changes on a global scale, with billions of people having to change how the work, socialise and travel. However, viruses and other contagious diseases have threatened human lives and societies long before we arose as the dominant species on Earth, and will continue to threaten our livelihoods in the future. Learn more about how these pathogens are so contagious and design your own virus here.
There are so many different possibilities for Science moving forward. Will humans move galaxies? Move into the digital space? Live as heads in jars? Submit your ideas for past, present or future ideas in the Project Request tab.
